    If you write a paper according to the Modern Language Association guidelines, you’ll have to learn how to write the heading properly. The MLA clearly states the rules of how to format the paper. Besides, every chapter or element has certain additional standards. Let’s focus on the header and format headings for now.

    Four components of the heading

    1. Full name;
    2. Instructor’s name;
    3. Course/Class name;
    4. The assignment’s due date.

    To write the heading, you need to include all the components from above. This information can be placed at the top of the first page or the front of the assignment. The latter is more suitable for longer papers and requires more data. For instance, if you write the research paper, you’ll have to make a separate page and put the needed elements in its center.

    The author also has to use proper headings as they help structure the paper. Every heading reflects the main idea of the whole chapter. That’s why people can use one of the five-level headings to deliver the wanted information.

    • The 1stlevel heading identifies the most important part and occupies a separate line and is written in bold. Later, it breaks up in pieces with the help of the following headings.
    • The 2nd level heading is placed at the beginning of a paragraph in italics.
    • The 3rd level heading takes a separate line, is written in bold, and placed in the middle.
    • The 4th level heading remains in the middle of the dedicated line and written in italics.
    • The 5th level heading is underlined, placed in a separate line, on the left.
